Brace Up for More Projects: Prof Murwira

The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science, Innovation and Technology Development, Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira paid a courtesy visit to the Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences incoming founding Vice-Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda on Wednesday 2 June 2021.
Speaking during the tour of the University, the Minister commended the Vice-Chancellor for timeously completing projects under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) and 100-day Cycle.
“May I commend you for your judicious expedience in completing your infrastructure development projects. Your ability to use internal human resources supported by the local community, to produce structures of this magnitude is highly commendable,” said Prof Murwira.
The comments came after touring the recently completed state-of-the-art clinic and the new lecture room block.
The Minister also took the opportunity to assure the University of guaranteed government support in the construction of bigger projects to come, of student accommodation, the multi-purpose teaching and learning centre and innovation hubs.
“As we forge ahead, we guarantee you government support in other bigger construction projects which are already at an advanced stage. The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency, Cde E.D. Mnangagwa has a vision of seeing Universities as the thinktanks and drivers of this economy and we, as implementors, will tirelessly and keenly follow this vision with our Education 5.0 until Zimbabwe becomes an Upper Middle-Income Economy by 2030,” reiterated Prof Murwira.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed his gratitude to the Chancellor of the University and the Minister for their unwavering support in infrastructure development projects at MSUAS.
“As we build a University of excellence in the country and beyond, we appreciate the support that we have been receiving from all government departments. Our focus now is on student accommodation and furnishing our laboratories and facilities with state-of-the art equipment which will consequently improve our research output as an institution,” said Professor Chawanda.
The visit comes following the appointment of Professor Chawanda as the substantive founding Vice-Chancellor of Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences.
In attendance were the Permanent Secretary to Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science, Innovation and Technology Development, Prof F. Tagwira, Directors from the Ministry, the Executive Dean of Students at MSUAS, Mr I Chaka, the Deputy Bursar, Mr V. T. Japu, the Deputy Registrar, Mr J Chifimbo, the Director Marketing, Information and Public Relations Mrs S Moyo and other senior University officials.
