The Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences, Department of Tourism and Hospitality partnered the Friends of the Vumba Community Trust in cleaning up the Lower and Upper Vumba on Friday the 3rd of December 2021.
The Department has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Friends of the Vumba Community Trust, a voluntary organisation with a mission to protect the serene environment of the Vumba for future generations.
“We are upscaling our green revolution initiatives and campaigns in our tourism sites; and our participation in cleaning up the Vumba; a premier tourism destination of Zimbabwe, is a genesis of other clean-up campaigns to come in various tourism destinations around the province. Our aim is to increase awareness on the effects of pollution in tourism destinations,” said Dr Makandwa, the MSUAS Tourism Club coordinator.
The event was jointly supported by Spar Mutare and Environmental Management Authority (EMA). Among the participants were students from the Department, Dr B Nyamunda, the Acting Dean of Studies, Mr V Bhasera and Mrs R Baipai; and Mrs S Moyo, the Director Marketing, Information and Public Relations.
