MSUAS Showcases Cutting Edge Agro-Innovations at the 2024 ZITF Edition

Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) proudly participated at the 64th edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Exhibition, held in 2024, under the theme of “Innovation: The Catalyst to Industrialization and Trade.”

This prestigious event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and stakeholders to showcase ground-breaking developments in various sectors. MSUAS took the opportunity to present its revolutionary Moisture Sensor Application. This cutting-edge technology, designed specifically for the Agricultural sector, detects moisture levels in crops and alerts farmers accordingly. The application provides real-time data, which enables farmers to make informed decisions about irrigation, ensuring optimal crop growth and productivity. The Moisture Sensor Application garnered significant attention from stakeholders and media houses, who were intrigued by its potential to revolutionize farming practices.

In addition to the Moisture Sensor Application, MSUAS embraced the concept of Education 5.0 and showcased a range of Agricultural products from its Innovation and Agro-Industrial Park. Visitors to the exhibition were treated to an array of high-quality Tobacco, harvested 2023 Winter Wheat, and specially developed Maize seed. The Maize seed was carefully designed to thrive in the unique weather conditions of Manicaland Province while also resisting various insect diseases that commonly afflict maize crops during their growth stages. By prioritizing food security and sustainability, MSUAS demonstrated its commitment to addressing the challenges faced by farmers in the region.   Commenting during the exhibition, Mrs. S. Moyo, the Director- Marketing, Information and Public Relations (MIPR), said ‘MSUAS exhibition is a testament to its dedication to provide Innovative Agro-solutions to the nation.  The innovations are a direct response to the challenges being faced by the nation as we upscale to increase food fortification.’

The presence of MSUAS at the ZITF Exhibition not only highlighted the university’s dedication to innovation but also showcased its ability to collaborate with industry and contribute to the development of the agricultural sector. Through ground-breaking technologies and research-backed solutions, MSUAS continues to pave the way for sustainable and efficient agricultural practices in Zimbabwe and beyond.
