Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS), in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE), hosted the Engineers Graduate Career Indaba, marking a significant stride in bridging the gap between academic training and professional practice for emerging engineers.
Running under the theme “Engage, Learn, Network, Excel and Energize,” the main objective of the event was to equip graduate engineers with useful information, prepare them for job interviews, and connect them with prospective employers.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda, the Pro-Vice Chancellor Upenyu Guyo, hailed the career workshop as critical to engineering graduates as it offers a comprehensive understanding of the engineering landscape, including the pathways to professional registration.
“Career workshops are vital because they bridge the gap between education and employment — between learning and practical experience,” said Prof. Guyo.
“Additionally these platforms are key in strengthening the crucial relations that exist between the academia and professional engineering bodies, ensuring that our curriculum as tertiary institutions remain aligned with the industry and regulatory standards.”
In his presentation as the guest of honour, Mutare City Council Acting Deputy Director for Water and Wastewater, Engineer Kurainashe Mugwagwa focused on a topic “Harnessing Manicaland’s Natural Wealth and Resources through Engineering” and supported the ZIE-MSUAS Engineers Graduate Career Indaba, framing it as a mandate for value addition and provincial growth.
“Manicaland Province is a treasure trove and it requires a generation of graduate engineers who are not just competent technicians, but innovators, entreprenuers and solution driven professionals. I commend ZIE and MSUAS for creating this platform as it assists in bridging the knowledge, fostering mentorship and connecting talent to opportunity,” said Eng. Mugwagwa.
The overly subscribe event was attended by industry professionals, graduate engineers including aspiring engineers and it underscored on MSUAS’ commitment to producing competent, professionally-minded, and industry-ready engineers who can immediately contribute to Zimbabwe’s economic and infrastructural development.
