Identifying Information Needs

Students are taught to understand the research question, its scope, and the specific types of information needed.

Finding Information Efficiently

After learning to identify their information needs, students are then taught to locate relevant information resources. Locating relevant information sources involves identifying appropriate information sources, information finding tools (scholarly databases) and search techniques.

Evaluating Information

Not all information is created equal, hence students are taught to critically evaluate information presented to them. Information is evaluated based on credibility, currency, accuracy, relevance and scope.

Communicating Information

Students are taught how to synthesise and apply the information retrieved to address or answer the research question or problem.

Using Information Legally and Ethically

Students are taught how to avoid plagiarism through proper citation and referencing. The University subscribes to the Turnitin antiplagiarism software to ensure the academic integrity of MSUAS’s research output. Students are also taught how to use reference management tools like Mendeley and Zotero.
