BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (HONOURS) BUSINESS MANAGEMENT DEGREE

PREAMBLE

Business Management Department strive to impart our students with knowledge and skills in an ever-changing business environment. We aim to promote a business sense among our student on how to manage business and be creators of employment. We want to produce students who are strategic thinkers and thereby becoming strategic leaders. Zimbabwe at this moment requires entrepreneurs, and as a department we promote entrepreneurship in its entirety.

A business manager is responsible to perform four important functions of management which are planning, organising, leading and controlling activities and people in an organisation. Equipped with all these skills, the degree gives access to a wide variety of career opportunities.

Welcome to the Department Business Management

The programme provides knowledge which develops the students’ intellectual and critical thinking ability as well as their managerial and entrepreneurial skills. It fosters ability to organize, analyze and interpret information for decision making while instilling and indicating high moral standards of personal and professionalbehaviour which are consistent with positions of trust and leadership in society and ever changing environment.

To produce graduates with a demonstrated high level of academic achievement, who understand the relationship between theory, research and practice and use this understanding to effectively inform their behavior.

Objectives

This program is specifically designed to provide:

Familiarity with a broad range of Information Systems and how they are used.
An understanding of frameworks and planning techniques for the strategic management of Information Systems in
The ability to critically evaluate and apply appropriate strategies and techniques to the development of Information
To synergize Information Systems in their entire ramification.

 

 

Normal Entry

To qualify for normal entry into the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Business Management Degree programme, a candidate, in addition to satisfying the minimum
Requirements, as prescribed under the General Regulations and the Faculty Regulations for English and Mathematics at ‘O’ Level, must have obtained at least two passes at ‘A’ level in any two of the following subjects: Management of Business, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics and Geography.

Visiting School Programme

To qualify for entry into the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Business Management degree (Visiting School) programme, a candidate, in addition to satisfying the minimum requirements prescribed under the General Regulations, must have: Diploma (Institute of Bankers),ND in Business Studies, Accountancy, Purchasing, Diploma in Education,Institute of Administration and Commerce (IAC),Institute of Personnel Management (IPMZ),Diploma in Business Administration (ZIM), Diploma in Marketing and any other relevant tertiary qualifications deemed to an equivalent or passes in relevant ‘A’ Level subjects.

Mature Entry

Refer to Section 3.3 of the General Regulations.

Special Entry

Candidates who have successfully completed a Higher National Diploma in Business Studies will normally be exempted from Level I on a module by module basis.

No candidate may complete the degree in less than three academic levels.
Successful completion of the Work Related Learning component at Level 3 is
compulsory for all candidates.

Graduates with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) Business Management will be well prepared for their professional roles to work as Business Advisors, Business researchers, Management Consultants, Project Managers, Risk Managers, Business Analyst, Business Development Manager, Company Managers, Branch Managers, Accounting Executives, Human Resource Managers, Administrators, Entrepreneurs, Public Relations Managers, Marketing Executives. This programme will also form the basis for a Master of Commerce, MBA, or an academic career in various management- related areas.
