The Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) Fundraising Golf Tournament held on Saturday at Hillside Golf Club proved to be a resounding success, bringing together business executives, corporate leaders, and avid golfers for a spirited day of sport, unity, and purpose.
Held under the theme โ€œWalking the Mile Together: Towards Vision 2030 and the Fulfilling Education 5.0 Philosophyโ€, the event lived up to its billing โ€” combining friendly competition with a meaningful mission: to raise funds for the procurement of a much-needed X-ray machine for the universityโ€™s Health Services Centre.
Over 70 golfers from across the country teed off in the early morning, representing a diverse array of sectors and cities.
The tournament created an energetic and collaborative atmosphere, underscoring the power of partnerships in advancing national development goals.
Nyaradzo Group led the sponsorship portfolio as the tournamentโ€™s major sponsor, with additional support from Old Mutual Group, Midlands State University, and Moonlight Funeral Assurance, among others.
Their commitment showcased the importance of corporate-university collaboration in promoting innovation hubs, infrastructural growth and academic excellence in line with Zimbabweโ€™s Vision 2030.
The tournamentโ€™s top honours went to Innocent Gonese, who finished with an impressive 43 points, demonstrating outstanding skill and consistency. N. Matiringe and A. Toronga secured second and third place respectively, maintaining a competitive edge that kept spectators captivated until the final putt.
The tournament also celebrated inclusivity, with a special tribute paid to the women and young golfers whose participation and performance highlighted the diverse spirit of the event.
During the awards ceremony, Acting MSUAS Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Upenyu Guyo extended heartfelt gratitude to all participants, sponsors and guests.
โ€œThis tournament is more than just a sporting event. It is a powerful demonstration of unity between the academic and corporate sectors, united in support of a shared vision for national transformation,โ€ said Prof. Guyo.
He emphasised that the funds raised will go towards the acquisition of an X-ray machine, a critical enhancement to the Universityโ€™s healthcare services.
The event concluded with a symbolic call to action for all MSUAS stakeholders to continue walking the development path together, with the University remaining committed to fostering innovation, industrialisation, and national progress through applied sciences.
This successful event was made possible through the generous support of numerous sponsors, including FBC, BancABC, CABS, Motonet, Tanganda, Dulyโ€™s, Croco Motors, Mimosa, PanMart, TelOne, ZERA, and many others.
