Research Innovation and Postgraduate Studies Office (RIPS)

Overview

The Research Innovation and Postgraduate Studies Office (RIPS) endeavours to offer exceptional quality services that promote a culture of excellence in research, innovation, and postgraduate studies administration and student support services at Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS).

The MSUAS research and innovation thrust commits to impactful solutions to challenges affecting our immediate and global societies and humanity at large in an attempt to contribute significantly towards building sustainable future. This is enshrined in our university motto: “Research Innovation Sustainable Development”. In this view, research and innovation at MSUAS is closely aligned to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

RIPS spearheads research capacity building among both academic staff and students at MSUAS. The RIPS serves as administrative support to the Research Board. It is also our mandate to negotiate and manage research contracts with partners and funders on behalf of the university. We also keep track of all research, intellectual property, technology transfer and commercialisation output at MSUAS.

RIPS oversees the administration of postgraduate degree studies being Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees at MSUAS. In this regard, RIPS seeks to: provide an efficient administration platform for postgraduate studies; promote uptake of postgraduate studies and to provide seamless postgraduate students’ support services.

Research and Innovation at MSUAS

MSUAS actively and deliberately promote innovation in all university academic and research areas through the Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation Initiative which is jointly managed by the RIPS and the Research Board.

The Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation Initiative offers grants on a competitive basis to both students and academic staff for research that is capable of producing novel and commercialisable output. Such projects are incubated by RIPS through the Innovation Hub. RIPS shall promote and facilitate filing and registration of IP output which include patents, trademarks, industrial designs and copyrights.

RIPS promotes and forges university-industry linkages and exhibits MSUAS research-based solutions at special expositions. However, MSUAS is always open to provide bespoke solutions to industry partners and all other stakeholders.
