The MSUAS inaugural graduation ceremony held on the 13th of October saw the installation of His Excellency, The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr E. D. Mnangagwa being installed as the Inaugural Chancellor of the growing institution. The event also saw the installation of Professor Albert Chawanda as the founding Vice Chancellor of the institution.
Speaking after the installation of Chancellor, Prof. (dr) A. Murwira, the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science, Innovation and Technology Development said, “Under the leadership of you, Your Excellency, Universities shall be centres of national aspiration and shall be places where industries shall be born. Your approach to higher and tertiary education is transformational.
”In his acceptance speech, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Chancellor of MSUAS reiterated that, “I challenge all of us to be bold and see to it that the Faculties are expanded in line with the New Strategic thrust of Government. The University should always be alert and endeavour to offer programmes of the future; capable of propelling our nation’s development thrust. I note your strategic thrust in programme development, however no domain of study should be deemed to be outside your purview. Honesty, integrity and accountability should guide this institution.”
“The installation is a call to work, a call to re-dedicate ourselves to duty, which I promise you, the MSUAS Community, we are going to deliver an institution of pride, an institution fit for purpose and institution modelled and designed to provide solutions to the communities the University exist in, for the ultimate benefit of humanity,” said the Chancellor.
The installation of Professor Albert Chawanda as the Vice Chancellor of the institution was also received with ululation and happiness in the graduation arena. Speaker after speaker described Prof. Chawanda as a soft and gentle character with determination and dedication to duty and; with natural grace to be a pioneer in all endeavours.
Among the speakers were Professor Emeritus Ngwabi Bhebe, the Chairman of the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education, Dr Blessing Mudavanhu, the Chairperson of MSUAS Council and Prof V N Muzvidziwa, the Vice Chancellor of Midlands State University.
