Congratulations to the Class of 2023

The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Chancellor of Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences, His Excellency Cde Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa capped 172 MSUAS students at a flamboyant second graduation ceremony held at MSUAS Fern Hill Main Campus in Mutare on Thursday, 14 December 2023.

Drawn from the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, Faculty of Agribusiness Management and Faculty of Applied Social Sciences, this year’s graduation ceremony had 51 percent rise comparing from the last year’s 114 graduates.

Of the 172 students who graduated, 48% were female. Out of those who graduated, 31 received awards, including six who were awarded first class degrees, three of whom were female. The best male student, Motion Hazvinandawa, earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics Honours degree with 33 distinctions, while the best female student, Joynah Jimias, earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems with Honours with 25 distinctions.

In addition to the individual awards was the Chancellor’s Award of USD$1000 each which was given to the two best students (Male and Female).

The other four students who graduated with distinctions were, Ishel Basera, Thelma Kasoso, Tinashe Chikari and Prosper Teramirai Tangamidzi. The four received the Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Award of USD$500 each.

During his welcome remarks, the Vice Chancellor of MSUAS, Professor Albert Chawanda, said: “This day represents tremendous hard work and dedication in our relentless pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, innovation, and sustainable development.”

“At MSUAS we celebrate not only our graduates’ academic achievements, but also their incredible potential and promise as they enter the world ready to make a lasting impact on Zimbabwe. We are committed to being an internationally respected university that provides quality education, research, and training through the creation and use of knowledge. Through our partnerships and collaborations, we aim to become a world-class academic institution that benefits the people of Manicaland Province.”

The graduation ceremony was attended by Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Prof. dr. Amon Murwira, and various cabinet ministers, traditional leaders and representatives of various companies.
