In a move to bolster national efforts in addressing psycho-social challenges and enhancing professional standards, Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) recently took centre stage as a champion of mental wellness at the annual conference of the Zimbabwe Association of Family Therapists and Professional Counsellors (ZAFTPC) held in Mutare.
Running under the theme “Mending Minds, Building Bridges: A Collective Journey in Counselling,” the conference focused on professional development, advocacy, and the enhancement of counselling services among both emerging and seasoned practitioners.
MSUAS registered counselling psychologist, Tariro Munamati, made a presentation titled “Healing the Broken: Innovative Approaches to Mental Health.”
In her address, she underscored the importance of innovation and applied solutions in delivering effective psycho-social support, aligning with MSUAS’s broader vision of integrating scientific knowledge with community development.
Munamati’s participation highlighted the University’s commitment to translating research and community engagement into practical mental health interventions.
She shared critical insights and best practices from MSUAS’s successful Community Mental Health Centre model, which has become a beacon of hope for students and surrounding communities.
The establishment of the Community Mental Health Centre at MSUAS reflects the institution’s holistic approach to education and community well-being, offering counselling, therapy, and outreach programmes that address mental health challenges in schools and neighbourhoods across Manicaland province.
Through such initiatives and thought leadership, MSUAS continues to cement its role as a leading force in promoting mental wellness, professional excellence, and social responsibility in Zimbabwe’s higher and tertiary education landscape.
