Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture of transparency, accountability and integrity in all its operations.
Speaking during a public lecture jointly hosted with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), MSUAS Vice Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda, said the event was aligned with the University’s mission of producing responsible citizens who value ethical leadership.
“We value ethical leadership, accountability and integrity. These virtues are the hallmark of all our activities,” Prof. Chawanda said.
The lecture, held under the theme “The Role and Function of ZACC in Combating Corruption”, featured a keynote address by ZACC Chairperson, Mr. Michael Reza, who outlined the Commission’s constitutional and legislative mandate.
Citing Section 254 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission Act, and provisions of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, Mr. Reza emphasised that ZACC’s operations are rooted in law and must always be conducted transparently in line with the Constitution.
Mr. Reza also unpacked the Commission’s anti-corruption strategies, identified high-risk areas, and warned that corruption remains one of the greatest obstacles to achieving Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030. He urged MSUAS staff and students to safeguard their dignity and self-worth, stressing that all people are equal before God. He encouraged young people to “focus on majors, not minors,” and to embrace honesty as a foundation for meaningful contributions to national development.
Adding her voice, ZACC commissioner responsible for prevention and corporate governance, Mrs. Chido Madiwa shared insights on how the Commission is working to instill integrity within public institutions and corporate structures.
MSUAS Registrar, Dr. Kudzayiishe Mudzingwa, applauded the lecture, commending the visionary leadership of Prof Chawanda which continues to drive the University’s growth since its inception.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Isheunesu Chaka, Executive Dean of Students, expressed gratitude to ZACC for the engagement, noting that corruption undermines trust, erodes national values, and stalls progress. He stressed that the Commission’s interaction with students had reinforced the importance of ethics, transparency, and accountability in everyday life.
The public lecture underscored MSUAS’s unwavering commitment to promoting national values of integrity and good governance, while aligning with Zimbabwe’s broader fight against corruption, a critical pillar of Vision 2030.
