In a dynamic display of innovation and community engagement, the Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) Department of Computer Science extended technology training beyond the campus gates, empowering learners at Mutare Girls High School with hands-on skills in programming and software development.
From October 13 to 17, 2025, MSUAS students pursuing a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science conducted an intensive training programme focused on VB.Net and core programming principles.
The initiative, led by Department Chairperson Mrs Caroline Ruvinga, aligns with Zimbabwe’s Education 5.0 philosophy, which emphasises innovation, industrialisation and community impact.
Over 105 learners participated in the interactive sessions, gaining practical experience and a deeper understanding of computer science — a subject integral to their curriculum from Form One through Form Six.
Through peer-led tutorials and real-world coding exercises, the young participants explored the creative side of technology, building confidence and problem-solving skills essential for the digital age.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, Mutare Girls High School headmistress Mrs. Stembile Mbizi expressed gratitude to MSUAS, noting: “Your input has gone a long way in equipping our learners with practical programming skills and the confidence to pursue computer science with passion.”
The collaboration not only enhanced the students’ learning experience but also reaffirmed MSUAS’ position as a hub of applied sciences, innovation and community transformation in Zimbabwe.
Through such outreach programmes, the University continues to nurture curiosity, creativity, and technological empowerment across Manicaland Province — living up to its mission of driving socio-economic development through applied knowledge.
