Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) held its inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the year 2022 on 30 August 2024 at the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development offices in Harare.
Comprehensive presentations made reviewed developments and achievements for 2022 outlining the University’s growth trail and its expansion into a world-class academic institution that adds value to the national development agenda.
The meeting kicked off with welcome remarks from the MSUAS Chairman of Council, Dr Blessing Mudavanhu who highlighted the University’s commitment to bring Vision 2030 to fruition through innovative implementation of the Education 5:0 philosophy.
“The University continues to pursue its niche in applied sciences through the development of Education 5.0 compliant programmes that seek to develop skilled graduates who are not only endowed with an entrepreneurial mindset, but who are innovative and able to provide solutions to the challenges being faced by society,” said Dr Mudavanhu.
Addressing stakeholders at the meeting, MSUAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda highlighted the University’s commitment despite the unprecedented disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022.
“Despite the challenges we faced during the COVID-19 period, MSUAS was able to persevere and continued to fulfill its mandate of the advancement of knowledge as well as the development of human capital in line with the National Development Strategy 1. This resilience and capacity to succeed during these difficult times would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the Government, the parent Ministry, our strategic stakeholders, our industry partners, members of the community, members of the University Council, members of staff and students.” said Professor Chawanda.
Among the key milestones in the period under review was the ability of the University to hold a successful Graduation Ceremony in 2022 and the installation of the founding Chancellor, His Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda.
Since then, MSUAS has continued to maintain a reputable position among institutions of higher learning as it seeks to achieve academic excellence in research, technical consultancy, community engagement initiatives and the establishment of the MSUAS Innovation and Agro Industrial Park.
In his remarks, Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Professor (dr). Amon Murwira represented by Chief Director of Finance Mrs Memory Mukondomi applauded the University’s developmental initiatives of maintaining the Innovation and Agro Industrial Park which is in line with Education 5.0.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Directors and Directors for the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, External Auditors, MSUAS Council members and top officials.
