Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) made a remarkable impression at the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Colour Run held in Mutare recently.
The charity event brought together participants from various organisations, underscoring the importance of community engagement, partnerships, and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
MSUAS was represented with distinction as Edwin Chawanda secured third place in the 10km race, a performance that drew admiration from fellow competitors and spectators alike.
Commenting on the sidelines of the event, MSUAS Vice Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda, said the University’s participation demonstrated its unwavering commitment to social responsibility and community development.
“Our participation in this marathon reflects our dedication to fostering partnerships and promoting community engagement. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Edwin Chawanda for raising the MSUAS flag high by securing third place. His achievement mirrors the talent, resilience, and devotion that define our university,” said Prof. Chawanda.
He further highlighted the importance of building relationships with organisations that share the University’s values, noting that collaboration is essential for making a meaningful impact on communities.
Prof. Chawanda did not just cheer from the sidelines — he also laced up his running shoes and competed in both the 10km race and the 100m sprint. His performances defied the odds, earning admiration for his determination and proving that leadership at MSUAS is not only visionary but also participatory.
The University’s involvement at the Colour Run builds on its strategic partnership with ZPCS, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2023, which focuses on advancing areas of mutual interest and strengthening institutional cooperation.
