In a bid to foster student and staff, engagement and togetherness through sport, Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences hosted the 2024 Vice Chancellor’s Sports Gala on Wednesday the 10th of April 2024.
Co-sponsored by UNESCO’s O3 Plus Project and running under the theme ‘Navigating Obstacles and Creating Social Cohesion Through Sport’, the gala attracted students from the university’s four faculties including staff members from the main campus as well as the Innovation and Agro-Industrial Park.
Athletes competed in various sports disciplines such as Soccer, Darts, Volleyball, Basketball, Netball, Pool, Tag of War and Walkathon.
Speaking at the official opening of the sports gala, MSUAS Vice Chancellor Professor Albert Chawanda revealed that competitors must take the opportunity for social integration and self-fulfilment in pursuit of sporting excellence.
All athletes were presented with prizes courtesy of the gala sponsors as a befitting acknowledgement of their participation.
Representing 03 Plus Project, Cluster Coordinator Atolia Phiri highlighted that the event was sponsored because O3PLUS believes in promoting student health and well-being. Sports encourage physical activity and teamwork, which remains essential for both physical and mental welfare.
