Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development minister Hon Dr Frederick Shava has praised Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) for its forward-thinking approach, which has seen the institution deliberately aligning its activities with national and continental development priorities.
Speaking at the University’s 2024 Annual General Meeting held in Harare, Dr Shava said MSUAS is strategically positioning itself to become a key driver of Zimbabwe’s development agenda.
“It is pleasing to note that MSUAS continues to align its mission with continental and national ambitions. The University has embraced innovation-driven education that supports the industrialisation and modernisation of key African sectors, particularly agriculture and natural resources. Through these deliberate and forward-looking efforts, the University is positioning itself not only as a key player in Zimbabwe’s development trajectory but also as an institution contributing to a continent that is rising on the pillars of innovation, self-reliance and human capital excellence,” said Dr Shava.
The Minister assured stakeholders that Government remains committed to supporting the growth and development of MSUAS, particularly in infrastructure development.
“We understand that access to safe, modern and adequate student accommodation is essential in providing a dignified learning environment. That is why the Government has made deliberate efforts to accelerate the construction of student hostels on campus—a project that is progressing well. This is a strong demonstration that MSUAS is not walking alone,” he said.
Also speaking at the same event, Chief Director for Human Capital and Skills Development, Professor Takaidza commended MSUAS for its impressive strides in research and innovation.
“The University is doing extremely well in research. For a young institution to produce such a significant volume of publications and book chapters is commendable. Its growing footprint on the international for a through collaboration with renowned universities is further testament to the University’s ingenuity and academic maturity,” said Prof Takaidza.
These remarks followed a detailed presentation by Vice-Chancellor Professor Albert Chawanda, who outlined the numerous milestones and achievements recorded by the University during the 2024 academic year.
Meanwhile, external auditors KFM International Chartered Accountants, represented by Mr Mangezvo, reported that MSUAS operated fully within its legislative mandate guided by the MSUAS Act, resulting in the institution receiving an unqualified audit opinion.
In his presentation, University Bursar Mr Victor Japu highlighted that the institution’s financial position continues to strengthen, as evidenced by its growing asset base.
Earlier, Registrar Dr Kudzayiishe Mudzingwa reaffirmed that the University consistently operates within the confines of all applicable corporate governance statutes.
