The Procurement Management Unit
The Procurement Management Unit is a department in the Vice Chancellor’s office established in terms of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act [Chapter 22:23]. The PMU also supports all the University’s departments in their quest to meet the objectives of Education 5.0 which are teaching, research, community service, innovation and industrialization. The Procurement department is responsible for ensuring that all procurement proceedings are conducted in terms of the Act and fundamentally to achieve the objectives of the Act as outlined in section 4 as follows:
• To ensure that procurement is effected in a manner that is transparent, fair, honest, cost-effective and competitive; and
• To promote competition among bidders; and
• To provide for the fair and equitable treatment of all bidders, leading to procurement contracts that represent good value for money; and
• To promote the integrity of, and fairness and public confidence in, procurement processes; and
• To secure the implementation of any environmental, social, economic and other policy that is authorized or required by any law to be taken into account by a procuring entity in procurement proceedings,
