As part of its ongoing efforts to promote corporate social responsibility, Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) last Friday donated food items and clothing to Zororai Old Peopleโs Home in Sakubva, Mutare.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Chairperson of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality, Dr Vitalis Basera, emphasised that the donation was a gesture of solidarity and recognition of the invaluable contributions made by the elderly to society.
โOur visit is not merely about presenting a collection of goods โ it is about extending our hands as MSUAS in solidarity, demonstrating our commitment to social responsibility.
At MSUAS, we strongly believe in the power of community engagement and the importance of giving back to the vulnerable populace,โ said Dr Basera.
Zororai Old Peopleโs Home, which currently houses 13 elderly residents, is a non-profit institution that provides care and support to destitute senior citizens.
Expressing her gratitude, Zororai Old Peopleโs Home administrator Ms Tariro Chitate described the donation as a timely and meaningful gesture that enhances the wellbeing of the residents.
โWhile our organisation is underfunded, we usually receive assistance from the community. We are deeply grateful for the thoughtfulness and generosity shown by MSUAS. This donation will significantly bolster our provisions and directly benefit the well-being of our beloved residents.
The support from organisations like MSUAS makes a tangible difference in our ability to provide a comfortable and nurturing environment for the elderly in our care,โ she said.
The vibrant event, attended by students and staff from the Department of Tourism and Hospitality, reflected MSUASโs deep and multifaceted commitment to social responsibility โ a principle integrated into its core mission of education, research, innovation, and community engagement.
The donation was made possible through the support of generous partners including Golden Peacock Hotel, Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, Elephant Executive Lodges, Heritage Haven, among others.
