Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) recently opened its doors to a delegation of students and staff from several Australian universities, reinforcing cross-cultural Christian fellowship and strengthening faith-based partnerships.
The event, hosted at the universityโ€™s Fernhill Campus in Mutare, was organised by MSUAS in collaboration with its Fellowship of Christian Union Students (FOCUS) ministry. The gathering provided a platform for vibrant dialogue on living out Christian faith amid academic pressures and societal challenges.
Among the notable contributors was Reverend Vincent Zhou, FOCUS Zimbabwe Eastern Region director, who emphasised the transformative power of faith-centred collaboration.
โ€œThis visit exemplifies FOCUSโ€™s vision to transform Zimbabwe through the gospelโ€”one student at a time. Our partnerships across borders nurture faith and develop leadership that impacts society,โ€ he said.
Representing the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students โ€” a sister organisation to FOCUS Zimbabwe โ€” national director Richard Chin offered a poignant message drawn from Romans 5:8โ€“10.
โ€œThe gospel transcends borders and cultures. Our mission is to see many come to recognise Jesus as Lord and be firmly grounded in their faith, whether here in Zimbabwe or in Australia,โ€ said Chin.
Reverend Ngoni Kadonhera, the MSUAS Chaplain, highlighted the global significance of the encounter.
โ€œOur students are part of an international family united by faith. These interactions strengthen their resolve to live boldly for Christ, both on campus and beyond,โ€ he said.
Offering a personal reflection, Dr Isheunesu Chaka, Executive Dean of Students, shared insights on spiritual discipline and maintaining a balanced life.
โ€œI spend time in daily devotion with my nine-year-old child. Establishing faith habits early is crucial. Our students need to develop rhythms of prayer, reflection, and scripture to remain steadfast amidst the pressures of university life,โ€ said Dr Chaka during a panel discussion on faith and academic responsibilities.
Throughout the programme, participants engaged in meaningful conversations about sustaining faith during university life, exchanged testimonies and explored practical approaches to support one another spiritually and emotionally.
The event concluded with a joint worship session, celebrating unity in Christ despite cultural differences. The sense of shared purpose and renewed commitment was palpable as both the Australian visitors and the MSUAS community departed uplifted and inspired.
MSUAS reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing spiritual growth, leadership development, and cross-cultural partnerships. The institution continues to recognise the vital role that faith-based dialogue plays in shaping future leaders rooted in conviction and compassion.
The event was attended by MSUAS staff and students from various faculties, further underlining the inclusive and inter-disciplinary nature of the initiative.
