In celebration of the identity and heritage of the African people, Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences recently hosted the Africa Day celebrations at the Main Campus. The celebrations ran under the theme: “Celebrating Africanacity, Diversity and Ubuntu.”
In a fun-filled event, students and staff celebrated the much appreciated African cultural diversity with a series of festivities aimed at advancing arts, culture and heritage.
Students and staff were treated to African music, dances, as well as traditional food as they captured the heart of African renaissance.
Commenting on the event, MSUAS Vice Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda said;
“As MSUAS, Africa Day remains an opportunity for us to celebrate the rich culture, history, diversity and unity of the African continent, as well as the progress made towards peace, development, and integration. By valuing our own exceptional ethnic expressions, we are not only reinforcing the sense of belonging, but it also adds to the richness and vibrancy of the world’s cultural landscape.”
Professor Chawanda also emphasised that “Africa Day is a platform designed, to embrace, celebrate and convey the legacy of our identity and culture, confirming that it continues to stimulate and enrich humanity for generations to come.”
The event also saw the Executive Dean of Students Mr Isheanesu Chaka and Ms Adella Mutongi emerging as winners in the Best Dressed Staff Category while Gerald Moyo and Tawanasha Mangere were the winners in the Best Dressed Student Category.
Africa Day also comes as the anniversary of the inception of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963 which became African Union (AU) in 2002.
